Over 600 million bottles of Heinz ketchup are sold worldwide every year. (source) Wow, that’s a lot of tomatoes. Ever wonder how ketchup is actually made from the field to the bottle?
Well, we found a video showing the process of how Kraft Mato Mato ketchup is made in an Italian ketchup factory.
It’s a bit like Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory without all the candy, oompa-loompas, and fun. Well, at least no children get hurt!
Check out this video of how ketchup is made!
My Big Fat (Italian) Ketchup Factory:
First, acres of tomatoes are harvested by some serious machinery. (hey, you missed one!) Then, the millions of tomatoes are shipped by trucks to a factory where they are sorted, cleaned, skinned, and cooked by machinery.
This is not the job you dreamed of as a little girl.
Careful, Sofia, don’t fall in!
Next, the tomatoes are pulverized and some ingredients are added including distilled vinegar, high fructose corn syrup, salt, and spices.
At this point, the ketchup is canned or squirted into bottles. Check out that machine! It’s so big that its hopper can hold up to 2000 ketchup bottles at once!
Speaking of machines, just look at the custom machinery in this massive ketchup factory! Wow, and I thought my coffee machine was impressive.
Look at those bottles on the assembly line as they are pasteurized, capped, and finally labeled.
Watching Ketchup Being Made Is Fun!
And here’s what the final product looks like:
Something about that video is nicely hypnotic to watch, especially without narration.
